Take a look at the important high-mileage services, and learn why they are important for your car. 

3,000 – 10,000 Miles

The make, model, and year of your vehicle will determine your first mileage milestone. Older vehicles that run on regular oil should be serviced at around 3,000 miles, while older vehicles that use a synthetic oil blend can wait until 5,000 miles. Newer cars can survive between 7,500 and 10,000 miles between oil changes. Irrespective of the exact mileage, your first milestone service should include:

• Oil change
• Tire rotation
• Tire pressure check
• Fluid refill

15,000 – 40,000 Miles

Your second mileage milestone focuses on your car’s filters. In particular, you should have your air filter, cabin air filter, and the fuel filter replaced. Many drivers don’t understand the importance of filters in their cars. Each filter is there to remove harmful contaminants, particulate matter, and debris, and when they’re dirty or blocked, that can impact your driving experience. That’s why experts recommend having them replaced around every 15,000 miles. Doing so will maximize fuel efficiency, boost engine performance, and reduce emissions. 

50,000 – 60,000 Miles

By the time your vehicle reaches this milestone, it is likely time to have some parts replaced. Some of the most common parts replaced at this milestone include: 

• Battery
• Brakes
• Timing belt

In addition to replacing parts, you can top off additional fluids. It’s recommended that you change your transmission fluid and coolant every 50,000 to 60,000 miles. 

75,000 – 90,000 Miles

For this mileage milestone, complete a few services to keep your car in good condition. First, flush and replace your steering fluid. Steering fluid can get dirty and sludgy from years of sitting in the container and affect your driving performance. Second, check and replace burnt spark plugs. Most modern cars have iridium or platinum spark plugs that can last up to 90,000 miles. Replacing the plugs during this milestone keeps your engine at peak efficiency.
